Keeping it local

Things trundle on through these 'unprecedented' times. I've managed to avoid all television news for a couple of months now so, although I've no idea what's going on, I'm not bombarded with the hyped panic currently being forced upon the masses. To quote Mark Twain, "If you don't read the newspaper, you're uninformed. If you read the newspaper, you're mis-informed."

Work took a turn for the worse last week with 20% of the company being sacked. I've luckily survived again but the whole episode has obviously left a wake of fear, uncertainty, and low morale. That should see us right until the end of the year!

Fishing at Wenty Falls Lake

When things get a bit stressed it's always good to get yourself surrounded by green and to throw a line in the water if possible. I got up to the Blue Mountains pronto and had a squidgie in the Wentworth Falls Lake as fast as I could. After an afternoon working the lure round all corners of the lake I finally found a fish. Once again at the very end of the day as the sun was setting. A pattern appears to be emerging!

Prawns in the harbour are an easier fishing option closer to home but the lack of trees and the bustle of the city make it less than ideal. But it's still a heap of fun and there are always a few little fish keen to have a go.

The whales are also passing through at the moment with calves in tow as they return from their breeding grounds up north. We were treated to a spectacular display of breaching only a couple hundred metres off shore this afternoon. They're usually a bit further out to sea on the southerly migration but maybe there are hordes of evil Orcas out there forcing them to sneak by closer in.

And the spiders that I predicted would emerge with the warmer weather have indeed appeared from wherever they've been hiding during the colder months. Only one has managed to breach the house's defences so far. Let's just hope his mates don't follow.
