Antarctic Vortex

Apparently Sydney is currently stuck in the middle of an Antarctic Vortex which appears to just mean that it's a bit chilly at night although, to be fair, the Blue Mountains and the country west of the ranges have seen a bit of snow. I've been mainly wrapped in a blanket at home and not been doing very much myself so here's an update of what other people have been getting up to...

My brother-in-law Will has had an especially exciting time over the past few weeks as he got married to Alyssia. The wedding was a lovely affair up in Blackheath and luckily took place before the aforementioned vortex arrived.

The happy couple

The mighty Cold Places Thursday night football team finally won the Division 1 title. After trying to win that trophy as a player and subsequently manager for what must have been at least 25 competitions over the past 7 years or so I finally gave up to become simply a fan. Only 2 competitions later I watched on from the stands as Pete led the team to glory. Emotional stuff!

Champions!

Without even trying I have managed to add another tick to the list though. On our usual weekend outing to look for the whales at Cape Banks I stumbled across a small group of Fairy Prions #467 swooping across the waves only metres from the shore. This small petrel is normally a bit more of a pelagic species but maybe the vortex played some role in bringing them close to shore. Despite the potential advantages of having a vortex around, I'm actually a bit fed up with it now so hopefully it's time for things to warm up heading towards Spring.
