Transplant!

On Tuesday I had my eye operation and everything went very well. I had a further check-up at the hospital this morning and that showed that everything is healing up nicely. In the event, the scarring to the cornea from the original infection was too deep to do the preferred partial thickness graft and so they switched to a full thickness transplant as they were going along. The operation took about 2 hours with 16 tiny stitches put in to hold the new cornea in place. After a night in the hospital, I came home on Wednesday afternoon and apart from a bit of soreness and discomfort, I'm feeling good and hopefully the sight will slowly return over the coming weeks and months. I don't have to wear a patch or anything and just have to put in antibiotic and steroid drops every couple of hours to prevent infection and rejection of the donor tissue.

Before - Lots of scarring...

... After - New cornea!

Emily returned to work this morning after looking after me so well for the first couple of days. In between doses of eye-drops she did a bit of baking which was torture for me as I'm still on this diet and so the cakes are off limits for now. But check out her burger cake... Amazing!

New tyres

What?! New tyres?! Sorry folks, but seriously nothing has happened over the last few weeks to warrant a mention on the blog. This may have something to do with the 8 week long liver detox diet that I've taken on. No alcohol, no red meat, no cheese (among other things) for 8 weeks! It's a nightmare and severely curtails one's social calendar. Oh well, 3 weeks down now so only 5 to go.

My eye operation is also scheduled for Tuesday and so at last, 19 months after losing the sight in that left eye, it may soon be restored! Can't wait and hopefully some good pictures after!
