Crakes and Rails

Last weekend I braved the heatwave and headed out to Bicentennial Park in search of the crakes and rails. They'd been showing well for the last couple of weeks at a particularly smelly swamp in the park so Jarrod, Adelle and I got on our bikes again for a bit of a cycle.

It took a wee while staking out the appropriate patch of mud but pretty soon we got fantastic views of these normally very elusive birds. The skulking Spotless Crake #386 and the secretive Lewin's Rail #387. Too good.

Quite a reasonable photo there.

Doesn't look that secretive.
