Eyesore

Well, well, things have taken a turn for the worse in the last week or so as I've been struck down with a bit of a nasty eye infection. Squeamish readers may not wish to look too much at the next picture (sorry Mum!) but I know a few of you will appreciate a bit of gore! It started off last Tuesday as a bit of suspected conjunctivitis but by Wednesday night my sight had gone and Emily thankfully persuaded me to take a trip to A&E. It turned out that my contact lens had caused a tiny scratch on my cornea which was then infected by a bacteria. I think they call it microbial keratitis causing a corneal ulcer.

Now there's your problem!

It wasn't just any bacteria though. No, it was a notorious Pseudomonas bacteria which "melts tissue" and doesn't like to be killed off too much. Anyway, things were a bit dicey there for a while and I was in hospital for the best part of a week in which time they saved the eye, thankfully, and now I'm back at home. Constant dosing day and night with antibiotic drops, pain-killing drops and steroid drops (Emily is doing a wonderful job) is working slowly and each day things are improving. Once the infection is gone I will almost certainly need some sort of corneal transplant but that's a wee way off now and in the meantime we'll just concentrate on fighting off this bacteria. I'll keep you posted.

More trophies

It's the short queue from now on

Before all that drama I managed to secure another couple of footie trophies, obtain my Australian passport and break even down the horses for Howard's birthday.

Happy birthday Howard
