Parrots in Orange

Orange from Mount Canobolas

After a few wet weekends, the rain relented this week and so we were able to get out on a bit of a road trip. And what better thing to do but go twitching parrots in Orange? Orange is 250 km west of Sydney and in the limited range of the Superb Parrot which was reported to be nesting in a park on the south side of the town.

All the parrots - Eastern Rosella, Crimson Rosella, Galahs

On arriving at the park we were able to spot loads of parrots - Eastern and Crimson Rosellas, Galahs and Red-rumped Parrots but no sign of what I was after. After a decent search we arrived at the furthest corner of the park and a flash of the brightest green caught the eye and a pair of Superb Parrots #407 landed up in a tree. They were joined by 6 more and although they were unfortunately too distant to get a picture, they weren't too distant to get the tick. Certainly a situation for Allan and his Bigma!

With the twitch out of the way, the rest of the weekend could be spent relaxing and catching too much sun.

Sounds like a super duper trip! :-) I should convince Gemma to go, that would have been 3 new ones for me; Dollarbird (which I should be able to pick around here as well) Musk Duck and Superb Parrot! Nice to be successful when it is a 500km drive :-D

Cheers Allan

Good to see you are still going on ridiculous road trips just to see some birds. I thought you had given up on the twitching?
